MODEL-SPECIFIC ERROR-CODE GUIDANCE

Cooktop Error Codes and Fault Guide

Cooktop symbols and codes may indicate unsuitable cookware, control lock, overheating protection, a sensor issue, power supply or an internal fault. Stop using a cracked, sparking or overheating cooktop.

START WITH THE SYMPTOM

Common fault groups

These groups help describe the problem. They do not replace the manufacturer manual or appliance diagnosis.

Cookware detection

Induction zones may not activate when cookware is unsuitable, too small or poorly positioned. Check the cookware guidance in the manual.

Control lock

A key or lock symbol may indicate the safety lock rather than a fault. Use only the model-specific unlocking steps.

Overheating protection

Allow the appliance to cool and ensure user-visible ventilation is unobstructed. Repeated warnings require service.

Power, sensor and zone faults

Record which zone is affected and the full symbol or code. Do not lift the glass or test internal electrical parts.

BRAND EXAMPLES

Codes are not universal

Always verify the exact model. Similar-looking codes can have different meanings across brands and product generations.

SmegE/Er and protection displays

Model-specific manuals define the notification and required response.

MieleLC/lock, cookware, overheating and fault messages

Confirm whether the display is a control-lock or cookware indication, protection response, or technical fault for the exact model.

BoschE-code and cookware symbols

Record the complete display and E-Nr because meanings differ across induction ranges.

SAFETY FIRST

Switch it off and isolate power or water only when safe to do so if there is smoke, sparking, a burning smell, an active leak, uncontrolled overheating, a cracked cooktop or repeated breaker trips. Do not remove panels, bypass locks or test live wiring.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cooktop code questions

What does my cooktop error code mean?

The meaning depends on the brand, exact model and sometimes the program stage. Record the complete code and model number, then compare it with the manufacturer manual before treating it as a diagnosis.

Can I reset the code by switching the appliance off?

A single power reset may clear a temporary message when the manufacturer manual recommends it, but repeated codes should not be continually reset. Stop using the appliance for leaks, smoke, sparks, burning smells, overheating or repeated electrical trips.

What information should I include in a repair request?

Include the brand, full model number, complete code or light pattern, when it appears, what the appliance was doing and any unusual sound, smell, leak or heat.

Does an error code confirm which part has failed?

No. A code identifies a condition detected by the appliance and several causes may be possible. Proper diagnosis is needed before parts are selected.
